Sugar
For centuries, women have depended on a natural sugar paste to remove unwanted hair. Sugar's natural protective and healing qualities make this the gentlest, safest procedure to date. There are a few things you should know before we start.
Client / After Care Information
How does this work?
The warm SUGAR paste is gently massaged onto cleansed, powered
skin. The paste clings to the hair so that when the paste is removed either with a gentle flicking motion of a gloved hand or by a cotton strip, the hair is removed by the root. Because the paste remains soft and pliable, there is seldom breakage of the hair and it is removed completely from below the skin.
Does it hurt?
While skin sensitivity varies, please remember that we are pulling the hair
from the skin. Most women experience a slight tingling sensation, not unlike pulling a bandage from the skin. On areas with dense hair distribution, the sensation will be stronger. With regular, repeated treatment, however, the sensation is minimized. Your specialist will speak with you about the best interval for your treatments which many clients have described as a "minimassage" for the same price as a waxing service.
How long does the hair stay away?
Again, this varies from one person to another. The regrowth after a SUGAR treatment can be removed with as little as 1 /8" of growth. The usual wax or resin products need double that length. Expect to repeat
the treatment on a 3-6 week cycle. For quicker diminishment 9f hair
growth, your specialist may suggest a different interval.
What should I do after my treatment?
You will leave your treatment with your skin soothed and moisturized.
Your skin will be a bit more sensitive, so we recommend that you avoid highly fragranced lotions and creams, deodorants and abrasive products for 4-6 hours after treatment. Following that, you may resume normal
product usage. Also recommended is the daily use of a loofah or granular
cleanser on the body to remove dead skin cells. This will leave the skin
smooth and polished and will minimize any chance of ingrown hairs. This is particularly important in the bikini and underarm areas.
Should I do anything different before my first treatment?
For your comfort, we recommend that you not sunbathe for 4-6 hours prior to and directly after SUGAR treatment. Avoid stimulants such as caffeine for one hour prior to treatment. Also, some women find increased sensitivity pre-menstrually.
Common sensations after any hair removal treatment:
Red, itchy skin: Caused by increased blood flow to the area. Apply cool compresses and sensation will subside.
Red raised bumps: Caused by the friction of removing hair from its follicle. Will usually disappear within hours. Apply cool compress if you wish White bumps (particularly on upper lip): May be caused by over-stimulation of oil glands or by bacteria. Avoid touching this area. Do not apply additional products. If you must wear makeup, please ask your specialist to apply clean, fresh makeup. Your own my be contaminated through daily use.
To speed healing, apply a saltwater compress: 1 /2 teaspoon of table salt to 1 /4 cup of warm water. Saturate cotton with saltwater and hold to affected area for 5-10 minutes. Salt will act as a catalyst and speed the natural healing process. For larger body areas, add 1 /2 cup epsom salts to a warm tub. Soak for no longer than 15 minutes, or skin will become dehydrated.
